Women on Water Match Racing Courses
Wellington
Women's Match Racing squad
A Wellington Women’s Match Racing squad has been selected for the period
May 2008 through to April 2009. The squad initially consists of four
sailors.
These sailors are:
Stacey Swanson
Kristin de Lisle
Shelley Pearson
Alice Pearson
From time to time it may be necessary
to draft additional sailors into the squad for short term periods or for
specific regattas.
The women’s squad will be coached to participate on the Trans Tasman
women’s match racing circuit. Participation in regattas is subject to
acceptance of entries and the availability of funding from PNYT.
The one regatta targeted in 2008 is:
NZ youth match racing national championships (RPNYC, Wellington)
The following regattas will be targeted in the 2009 plan:
Harken international women’s match racing championships (CYCA, Sydney)
NZ women’s match racing national championships (RNZYS, Auckland)
Selection into women's squad also means selection into the Wellington
yachting talent development programme. Squad members receive their sport
science input through the talent development programme.
Women
on Water Match Racing Courses

The Port Nicholson Yachting Trust, with the support of the New
Zealand Community Trust, proudly brings to you the women on water match racing
courses. The aim of the courses is to provide an opportunity for more women to be
involved in match racing.
The courses involve eight sessions run
over a four week period. The courses are run in the youth scheme fleet
of four Elliot 6m match racing yachts. During each course teams of three
women learn how to match race including topics such as pre start
maneuvers, match racing rules, match racing formats, and general boat
handling techniques. Each course culminates with a match racing regatta.
The courses are open to all women sailors
in Wellington. All you need do is get together with two others and form
a team. You don't need to be a youth to participate - just young at
heart! Your skipper will need to have had a reasonable degree of sailing
experience.
