Wellington finished first and
second this year in the CentrePort Champs. Tim Coltman, Josh
Junior and Chris Jones were first from Josh
Porebski, Matthew Steven and Matthew Clough.

Bank Cup

Josh

competed and won the National Bank cup in Auckland, the scheme's
first ever victory on the Trans Tasman circuit. more

Cup at the the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron finishing a credible

This season was our first visit to
the Under 25 Warren Jones cup in Perth. Matthew Steven, Matthew
Clough, Jonathan Clough, James Hakes, Chris
Staub and Chris Jones sailed at this regatta gaining
a lot of experience for the years to come. more

Schools programme

In the lead up to Christmas,
schools were provided with an opportunity to experience the
thrills of sailing on Wellington Harbour.

National Match Racing
Championship
|
The Youth Scheme made the trip to
Auckland for its first attempt at the National Match Racing
Championship. We gained a lot of experience in competing in this
scale of regatta and finished 8th in the process
more.

Excellence Awards

The Youth Scheme picked up two
awards at the YNZ excellence awards. Maurice Scott
received an honour award for services to yachting while the
NZ University Match Racing Team were finalists in the
young sailor of the year award and won a merit award.

New Zealand Keelboat
National Championship

The Youth Scheme entered the National
Keelboat Championships to gain a bit of experience outside of
the youth regattas. We were pleasantly surprised when the team
consisting of
Josh Junior,
Matthew Steven, Rowan Swanson, Jonathan Clough and
Chris Jones finished in third place

Youth Scheme grad in Volvo
Ocean Race

|
Youth Scheme graduate Daryl
Wislang is currently racing in the Volvo Ocean Race on board
Telefonica Blue. One of Daryl's jobs is looking after sail
repairs, a skill he picked up while working at Linton Sails in

College Sport Wellington
Match Racing Champs
|
Seven teams from five colleges
competed in the College Sport Wellington Match Racing championships. Scots College took out
first and second places with the winning team being Tim Coltman,
Elliot Andrew and Mackenzie Taylor more.

the youth match racing national championships this year. Matthew
Steven, Matthew Clough and Chris Jones finished in first

successful in introducing a crop of younger sailors to the
match racing discipline. The last weekend of sailing involved a
match racing regatta which was won by Jackson MacFarlane

Youth Scheme sailors win world
championship

Josh Junior,
Matthew Steven, Chris Jones and Carl Syman convincingly won the
2008 World University Match Racing Champs in Gdansk Poland,
beating off 12 teams from ten nations
more.

Youth Scheme Aims:
To help
increase the number of youth participating in sailing.
To
support youth sailors
to develop the skills and understandings to sail competitively in youth
classes at a regional, national and international level.
To
support youth sailors
through the transition from junior to youth classes to senior classes.
To
contribute
towards the creation of Wellington as a centre of excellence for youth sailing in
New Zealand.
The
Port Nicholson Yachting Trust Youth Scheme is an ongoing programme of
